Central to the Community Smiles dental clinic operations is our 2-year post-doctoral residency program.
Accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA) Committee on Dental Accreditation (CODA) in 1992, this Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program has operated continuously since 1984. In addition to receiving didactic training, residents provide primary care to patients in our clinic daily.
Unique among general dental residencies in the United States, the Community Smiles program is renowned for the breadth and depth of its faculty, and the expansive nature of its specialty instruction and clinical experience.
Based in the Lindsey-Hopkins Technical Education Center, the Community Smiles residency program offers the advantages of supplemental training and rotations at select local private dental offices.
Residents are admitted to the Community Smiles AEGD program through a highly competitive selection process. Prior to seeking this post-doctoral certification, in addition to obtaining their graduate degrees in dental medicine, all Community Smiles residents have at least two years in active dental practice and have undertaken a rigorous orientation program.
